Wrecks Won't Roll; Pensacola Beach Mardi Gras Parade Cancelled

Krewe of Wrecks
The Krewe of Wrecks Mardi Gras parade will not roll in 2021.
After meeting with Santa Rosa Island Authority officials on December 3, Head Wreck Melanie Waite stated, “It is with regret that the Krewe of Wrecks Board and the Santa Rosa Island Authority announce that there will be no Krewe of Wrecks Pensacola Beach Mardi Gras parade in 2021.”
The pandemic coupled with the broken Three Mile Bridge were deciding factors in the parade cancellation.
Waite tells Island Times that the Wrecks Board has not ruled out the possibility of hosting other small outdoor functions.
“The health and safety of our members, participants and spectators must be protected. We do not want to be blamed for hosting a super spreader event,” said Waite. “The fate of other Mardi Gras events remains uncertain as we continue to re-evaluate future COVID developments.”
The Wrecks, Pensacola Beach’s original Mardi Gras krewe,  will return to parading on Sunday, February 27, 2022.
Sleep Little Naugas
Danah Gibson, Queen Nauga I, announced that the Krewe of Nauga Champagne Breakfast and Native Noontime Ball has been postponed until 2022.
“Our Queen Shea Mead has charmed our krewe to keep them safely asleep. They’ll stay dormant ‘til 2022,” said Queen Danah. “They will dream of sandspurs, hairspray and the sound of crashing waves.”
Queen Danah explained that the raucous party draws too big a crowd to safely host it among COVID concerns, but she promises that the Champagne Breakfast and Native Nootime Ball in 2022 will come roaring back, bigger and better than ever.
The Krewe of Nauga dedicate a portion of the event’s proceeds to support Pensacola Hotel for Cats and Dogs.  If you would like to make a donation, send to: Pensacola Hotel for Cats and Dogs, 4119 Creighton Road, Pensacola, FL 32594 or call them at 850-857-0222.
“We will see you in 2022 with a cold drink in your hand and dancing to a badass band,” Queen Danah said.”
