Limited operation of the Fort Pickens Campground is set to begin

Gulf Islands National Seashore is Continuing to Increase Recreational Access to Areas of the Park . Limited operation of the Fort Pickens Campground is set to begin.  Beginning Monday, August 10, Gulf Islands National Seashore will increase access to Fort Pickens Campground, Loop A. Campers will be able to begin making reservations for the identified sites in Loop A on August 3, using Additional campsites will be available for reservations throughout August and September as conditions allow.  




Hand Sanitizer Added to Escambia County's Public Health Campaign: Mask Up, Escambia!

Beginning Wednesday, July 29, Escambia County is now offering 10,000 bottles of hand sanitizer in addition to face masks as part of the public health campaign, "Mask Up, Escambia!" The campaign, which began July 1, is focused on informing residents and visitors that masks are recommended by the CDC to protect others. In addition to a 2 ounce hand sanitizer bottle, the public may continue to pick up a free mask while supplies last. The county offered 27,000 free masks to residents throughout the public health campaign. On Pensacola Beach you can ask a Lifeguard or go to Lifeguard Tower 4 to get the supplies. 




Escambia County Extension Asks Residents to Report Suspicious Seed Packets Received in the Mail

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services issued a warning yesterday for Floridians about unsolicited packages of seeds received through the mail. The seed packets, which may arrive  unexpectedly in packages bearing Chinese characters, may bear the name China Post, and may be labeled as jewelry, have been reported in multiple ares including Virginia, Kansas, Washington, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Utah and Escambia County.

As of July 27, FDACS has received at least 160 reports from Florida residents reporting having received suspicious seed packages. The content of the seed packages is unknown at this time.




Santa Rosa Island Authority Committee Tables Lease Increase Discussion Until October

The Santa Rosa Island Authority staff recommended at the July 22 Administrative Committee meeting a 7.7 percent increase in annual lease fees. The Committee voted to move the discussion to the October Board Meeting.

The increase, which is tied to the Consumer Price Index, comes under review every five years, but not all leases contain the escalation clause. SRIA Director of Administration Robbie Schrock reported that “All new leases since 1975 have a provision that allows the SRIA to increase lease fees every five years by a vote of the Authority Board.”

Double Bridge Run

The Pensacola Double Bridge Run (15K) carries runners over two bridges, across Pensacola Bay and Santa Rosa Sound and onto Pensacola Beach.  The 5K invites both runners and walkers to travel from Gulf Breeze to beautiful Pensacola Beach on Santa Rosa Island and the Gulf Islands Seashore.
