Volunteers Needed for Scallop Search

Each July Florida Sea Grant trains volunteers to conduct a Scallop Search.  As the name implies – we are monitoring the abundance of bay scallops in the lower portion of the bay system. To participate you will need…

  1. A team of at least 3 volunteers
  2. Your own snorkel gear
  3. For some locations – your own boat
  4. Let us know which body of water you wish to survey (Big Lagoon or Santa Rosa Sound)
  5. Which day you would like to survey

Jeremy Johnson Seeks Second SRIA Term

Pensacola Beach resident Jeremy Johnson seeks to serve a second term as the elected representative on the Santa Rosa Island Authority Board. He was first elected in 2022, unseating an incumbent who had occupied the elected seat for twenty years.

Lisa Newell announces campaign for Florida Senate District 1

Gulf Breeze News Publisher Lisa Newell announced her candidacy to represent Florida’s First Senate District.The seat, which was previously occupied by Doug Broxson, represents all of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties and the northern part of Okaloosa County, near Crestview.

Pensacola Beach Lifeguards Update Beach Flag System

  • Green flag - Low Hazard: Generally calms surf and currents
  • Yellow flag - Medium Hazard: Moderate surf and/or currents
  • Red flag - High Hazard: High surf and/or dangerous currents; beach patrons encouraged to remain out of the water
  • Double red flag - Water Closed: No swimming or wading  
  • Purple flag - Stinging Marine Life: Flown when jellyfish, Portuguese man o'war or other stinging marine life are present

Trolley Service Starts May 24

The Santa Rosa Island Authority will launch their free, open-air trolley service along Pensacola Beach this Memorial Day weekend, beginning Friday, May 24.

The 2024 Pensacola Beach Island Trolley, operated by Escambia County Area Transit, will run daily from 4 p.m. to midnight through Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 2.

Beach Jumper Bus Free To Ride During Summer, Limited to Friday, Sat, Sun

Beginning Friday, May 24, the Beach Jumper Route 64 will operate on fridays from 2:20 to 9:30 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday from 10:15 a.m. to 9:05 p.m. Fares will be waived until Sept. 2
