Pelican Placed, Dedicated To Honor Pete Moore's Contributions

Escambia County recognized the contributions made to Pensacola Beach Public Safety by the late Peter R. Moore and his family with a public presentation of the Moore Safe Shores Pelican along with a memorial plaque today at the Pensacola Beach Public Safety Building.

Time Restrictions Lifted, Restrooms and Pavilions Open

County Commissioners voted at their May 21 meeting to lift time restrictions on Pensacola Beach, open restrooms, pavilions and the area around the Pensacola Beach Gulf Fishing Pier to beach-goers.

Escambia County Submits Safety Plan for Short-Term Vacations Rentals; Plan Approved May 19

Escambia County submitted a short-term vacation rental plan last night to Secretary Beshears with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation for review, response and approval.
"We are thankful Governor DeSantis recognized the importance of short-term vacation rentals to our community yesterday during his press conference," said County Administrator Janice Gilley. "This short-term vacation rental plan was created with input from county commissioners and members of ESF-18  such as the Greater Pensacola Chamber, Visit Pensacola and the DMO. We hope for approval by Sunday for implementation on Monday, May 18." Plan was approved by Secretary Beshears on May 19 to be effective immediately.

Fort Pickens To Open May 16, Campgrounds Closed

Beginning on May 16, the National Park Service Gulf Islands National Seashore will open the Fort Pickens area. Fort Pickens will  be open normal hours, only restrooms outside the Discovery Center and at Langdon Beach will be open. There will be lifeguards on duty at Langdon Beach. The Fort Pickens Campground, Discovery Center, and bookstore remain closed.

In an effort to provide the public in Northwest Florida concise and accurate information related to COVID-19 business resources, a consortium of Escambia and Santa Rosa County business, economic development, and tourism agencies have joined together to create the Reopen Escarosa resource document.   This document contains information related to Phase One of Governor Ron Desantis’ Reopening Florida Plan with an emphasis on safety guidance for businesses and COVID-19 information for the general public.
